Clavell's Cafe

Clavell’s Café and Farm Shop is situated in the picturesque village of Kimmeridge on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset one mile inland from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

Kimmeridge and its Bay is owned by the Smedmore estate and are renowned for fossil collecting, diving and surfing. Clavells Café takes its name from Clavell’s Tower a distinctive clifftop folly now owned by the Landmark Trust, which moved the tower  from the crumbling  Kimmeridge cliff edge and converted it into one of the most coveted holiday lets in the country with matchless views along the dramatic Purbeck coast.

Clavell's Cafe & Farm Shop

After extensive refurbishment the cafe opened in May 2008 and is run by Annette, Emma and Gillian Hole part of the Hole family who have lived and farmed in Purbeck since 1962. The Holes are farming brothers John, Andy and Jerry and their father Guy who originally came from New Zealand but the family has been farming in the idyllic Isle of Purbeck setting for nearly 50 years producing high quality meat, milk and corn. John’s wife Gillian and Jerry’s wife Annette both run successful Bed and Breakfasts so can now offer guests a complete package while other members of the family all contribute to the running of 2,000 acres where we have 2 dairy herds, sheep, beef cattle, corn and a small herd of pigs, so you can be sure of where all the meat comes from.
“We have a passion for this area and the community that we live in, so we farm in a manner that protects our environment the wildlife and the special character of the Purbeck landscape”
Jerry and Annette’s daughter Emma runs the café and farmshop with help from Annette and Gillian. She worked in the restaurant and catering industry in London before returning to Dorset, and they have created an attractively modern country look to the welcoming café and well stocked shop.
